The Puddings Evening held at Sandon Hall on Friday 6th September was a fantastic success and was a complete Sell Out. The musical entertainment was provided, for the eighth time, by The Daleian Singers Male Voice Choir and the delicious puddings prepared by members of the Gnosall Macmillan Committee, were served with a glass of wine during the interval.

The audience were absolutely thrilled and impressed with the Choir’s magnificent performance, which exceeded anything they’ve done before. The soloists for the evening were Tony O’Rouke, who has been a member of the choir for many years, and 16 year old Oliver Pritchard-Jones who is the youngest choir member and was appearing with his Dad and Grandad. After the interval 7 members of the choir sang two items acappello and were followed by Oliver playing solo on his saxophone.

The choir then returned to demonstrate their versatility and range of style of choral music. Before the finale the choir left the platform in single file whilst singing “Bui Doi” from the hit Miss Saigon and surrounded the whole audience, which took everyone by surprise and made us all feel part of the performance. That was impressive! For your information The Daleians now have in excess of 60 members and continue to win awards at national and international competitions. In 2016 and 2017, they won the North Wales Festival at Llandudno in the Male Voice choir Section and in May this year, for the first time, they competed at the Cornwall International Male Voice Festival, coming second to a Finnish Choir by a very narrow margin but were awarded two cups for the Best UK Choir in the competition. A remarkable achievement but they still entertain most of all and raise considerable amounts of money for charities. I am pleased to tell you that we raised £1169 for Macmillan on the night and during the last eight years when The Daleians have entertained us they have helped us raise just over £11000 at Sandon Hall.

We would like to thank all those who attended for their generosity to Macmillan Cancer Support. A special thank you also to the committee members and their friends who made super puddings as well as providing Raffle Prizes, and to the many helpers, including Rod, Frank and Bob, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the evening run smoothly. THANK YOU ALL.
