Sponsored walk in aid of First Responders
I would like to make readers of GPN aware of a challenge I am undertaking on September 4th through to the 6th, to the advantage of the Gnosall Community First Responders.
Many will know - as we have the Shropshire Union canal running through Gnosall - of the Four Counties Ring. This 110 miles long navigation is a popular narrowboat holiday route, taking in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and part of the West Midlands. Most boaters would expect to enjoy this over 10 – 14 days. I aim to walk the towpath in 3 days. This involves walking 40 miles on each of days 1 and 2, the equivalent of a marathon and a half each day, with the 3rd day being 30 miles, or just over a marathon distance. Added to the challenge is the fact that I will be camping 2 nights, therefore carrying all of my own kit except water. In effect, I will be unsupported throughout and walking alone.
I will be starting from outside the George and The Dragon pub at 0500 on the 4th, and hoping to return by 1800 on Friday 6th.
Any support by means of sponsorship would be greatly appreciated, and we all know that the First Responders is a worthwhile cause, the members of which go about their unpaid service with quiet diligence and humility, depending totally on charitable donation to keep going. Readers can support The Four Counties Ring Challenge in a couple of ways. Firstly, there are sponsorship forms and a collecting box in the George and The Dragon pub. There you will also find a ‘sweepstake’ with a chance of winning £25 by guessing how many steps I will take to complete the challenge. Secondly, there is ‘just giving’ page online. By visiting justgiving.com and searching for DA Four Counties Ring Challenge, you can donate there, and you will see The First Responders details highlighted. If anyone needs any further clarification, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope readers feel able to support this in some way however small, and if you see me on the towpath, give me a cheer!
